Mission

3 Sisters is a (mostly) digital journal of text, image, and objects. It is a portal for creative work that exists in between spaces, genres, disciplines, and modalities of convention. We are drawn to Surprise. The Unlikely. The Weird. The Wild.

We cherish Writing, Making, Experimenting, and Risk-Taking as paths intersecting discovery. We welcome material that is uncertain of its place in the mainstream and support humans and work historically underrepresented in literary arts publishing.

If you made something and thought, “What just happened?,” we’d like to see it.

3 Sisters is based out of the University of Pittsburgh’s Writing Program.

About Our Name

In downtown Pittsburgh, the Three Sisters refers to three nearly identical self-anchored suspension bridges spanning the Allegheny River, bridges also named to honor past Pittsburgh residents: Roberto Clemente (Sixth Street Bridge), Andy Warhol (Seventh Street Bridge), and Rachel Carson (Ninth Street Bridge).
